WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?
I use so many different materials! Art-making is a process of experimentation. I think it’s always smart to occasionally try new supplies, whether it’s a new medium or a new brand of medium. I'm always trying new things but usually I use watercolor, gouache and oil paint. I also use my Wacom Intuos tablet, Photoshop, Illustrator, caffeine (lots of caffeine!) and music background. (These are the tools I like and use but don't forget you'll have to find out what works for you)
DO YOU TAKE COMMISSIONS?
Yes. I've been working on commission (a lot) and I like it.
DO YOU DO CUSTOM DESIGN FOR BLOGS AND SMALL BUSINESSES?
Yes. I’m not a graphic designer, I will not design your blog but I'll be happy to do custom illustrations for your blog, website or small business.
HOW MUCH MONEY DO ILLUSTRATORS EARN?
This varies
from job to job and from illustrator to illustrator. I've worked for too little sometimes. As an illustrator you always have to weigh up whether it is worth working for minimal money. If
the work is something that I really want to do then it might be worth doing. For me the most important thing is to keep working with my clients and getting new ones. And I have to tell you that not every job offer will turn into actual work. As an illustrator
you have to get used to the words "we decided to go in another direction". From what I've learned so far: be nice to people, know your clients, don't just do what's expected of
you, work harder and do more, learn to accept rejection, be patient and love what you do. Success never comes overnight. It takes years of hard work (and
sacrifice I’m afraid) to build a career in the creative industries.
