Todos os bairros típicos e antigos de Lisboa estão em festa e sente-se a alegria no ar, há música, dança, sardinhas, fado, manjericos por todas as ruas!
This is the perfect time to visit Lisbon! June is by excellence the month of all popular saints. The city is dressed in colours, ballons, tapes and music. St. Anthony is Lisbon's most typical party. All the old neighbourhoods are decorated in bright colours and there is music, dance, sardines, fado, bush basils all over the streets!
Os manjericos (Ocimum minimum L.), chamados "a planta dos apaixonados", são tradicionais desta festa populares, os rapazes oferecem-nos às raparigas, num vasinho e com uma flor de papel colorido onde vem escrito um poemas de amor. Dizem que não se pode cheirar os manjericos se não eles morrem, dão-se umas palmadinhas com a mão e cheira-se a mão que lhes tocou para sentir o seu aroma forte.
The bush basils (Ocimum minimum L.) in Portugal are also called "the lovers flower". They are typical of St Antonio party. At St Antonio's night the boys offer a bush basil to their girlfriend. It comes with a colorful paper flower and with a popular Portuguese love poem. They say you can not smell the basil. If you do that the basil dies. You have to rub the basil with your open hand and then smell the hand that touched the basil to feel its strong aroma

Na Avenida da Liberdade, por volta das 21h30 haverá marchas/desfile. É como um carnaval com pessoas dos diferentes bairros típicos da cidade de Lisboa vestidas em trajes coloridos e dançando coreografias complicadas. No final da noite há um bairro vencedor. Neste dia há também as "Noivas de Santo Antonio ". A cidade faz a festa de casamento aos casais que se queiram casar neste dia. A Avenida da Liberdade fica repleta de vestidos brancos. O bairro de Alfama é outro sítio a não perder, ali Lisboa transformar-se numa enorme festa ao ar livre com cerveja, sardinhas, dança, música e muita gente.

At Avenida da Liberdade, from around 8h30pm, there will be the parade. It´s almost a carnival style parade with people from the different typical neighborhoods dancing dressed up in colourful costumes. At the end of the night it's announced the winner neighborhood. There’s also the “St. Anthony’s brides”. The city hall traditionally hosts bridal couples for free if they’re poor. The Avenue gets packed with white dresses. At Alfama neighbourhood you'll see Lisbon turning into a huge open air party with beer, sardines, music, dancing and lots of people.
